Understanding ADHD needs in occupational therapy clients across the lifespan (August 23, 2022)

ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder that impacts individuals across the lifespan.  The scientific understanding of ADHD has been rapidly changing ever since it was first recognized as a disorder.  As a result, there is an unfortunate amount of misunderstanding, misinformation, controversy, and societal stigma about ADHD.  More recent scientific studies have been shaping a more effective and complex picture about the unique brain differences and needs of individuals diagnosed with ADHD.  Occupational therapy can play an important role in supporting individuals with ADHD, but it is critical that OTs understand how to adapt their services to meet the unique ADHD needs of their clients.
