Family-centred care: The forgotten link in mental health and addictions (November 8, 2022)

Occupational therapists provide assessment and individualized therapy plans with their holistic approach. Family-centred care enables occupational therapists to further support their client and their client's chosen family in what they want, need or have do in their recovery journey.

Through personal experience and research, this webinar will describe challenges faced by families in supporting their loved one with a mental illness and/or addiction. It will provide an overview of family-centred care, describe the challenges healthcare providers face with integrating family-centred care into practice, and identify evidence-based ways to integrate it into occupational therapy mental health and addiction practice

After taking part in this webinar, participants will be able to: 

1. Acknowledge and appreciate the challenges faced by families who are supporting a loved one with a mental illness and/or addiction.
2. Recognize the importance of family-centred care.
3. Integrate family-centred care into occupational therapy practice.
