ON-DEMAND WEBINAR PURCHASE
Presented by: Evan Dean and Ben Edwards
Self-determination is about making or causing things to happen in your life as you set and work toward goals. People with disabilities, particularly autistic people and people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, often do not have the opportunity to build self-determination. Occupational therapists are well positioned to support people with disabilities to build self-determination.
This webinar will describe self-determination and 30 years of research suggesting self-determination supports positive outcomes in employment, academics, and quality of life for autistic people and people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This webinar will also describe intervention approaches, the Self-Determined Learning Model of Instruction (SDLMI) and the Self-Determined Career Design Model (SDCDM) and an assessment, the Self-Determination Inventory (SDI) that can support occupational therapists to promote self-determination in their practice. Finally, this webinar will provide practical tips that occupational therapists can use in their practice to promote self-determination in everyday activities.
