Occupational Therapist – ACTT-Barrie – Permanent – Full-Time

CMHA, Simcoe County Branch is seeking an Occupational Therapist to work in the Assertive Community Treatment Team - Barrie Program who has extensive clinical skills and knowledge and enjoys working in a team environment.  The Occupational Therapist (OT) functions as a clinical member of the multi-disciplinary ACT Team.  He/she will have the clinical skills and experiences to assess, plan, develop, coordinate and provide treatment, rehabilitation and support services to the program’s clients with severe and persistent mental illness.  Direct experience in dealing with mental health issues, either personally or as a care giver, will be viewed as an asset, but it is not required.



  • A Bachelor’s level education in Occupational Therapy and membership with the Canadian Occupational Therapists of Ontario.
  • Two years experience as an Occupational Therapist with some training in mental health.
  • Experience working in a mental health or addiction community based setting preferred.
  • Access to a vehicle is required.

  • Knowledge and practice of harm reduction, client-centered recovery philosophy, and community service delivery.
  • Knowledge of community resources connected to the provision of mental health and addiction services.
  • Able to influence stakeholders through diplomacy as well as negotiation skills in client/system advocacy.
  • Good interpersonal and networking skills.
  • Knowledge of assessment, planning, and skill teaching strategies.
  • Able to anticipate crises and to apply appropriate non-violent crisis intervention skills to de-escalate the situation.
  • Knowledge of mental illness, medications, symptom management, substance misuse, dual disorder, concurrent disorders, or legal issues would be an asset.
  • Able to work independently and in a team setting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 

$52, 465. – $57,930. per annum
*plus $1.80 shift premium as per policy

35 hours per week (rotational shift work based on a seven (7) day staffing schedule.
