Assistant Professor Department of Occupational Therapy Position Number: 25571
The Department of Occupational Therapy in the College of Rehabilitation Sciences, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba is seeking applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Qualified candidates will possess substantive knowledge and relevant experience in occupational therapy, with a particular focus on older adults or children. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The College research agenda focuses around five clusters: mobility and physical activity challenges; chronic conditions and diseases; Indigenous Peoples health; interprofessional collaborative and client-centered education and practice; and education research and scholarship. There are two additional cross cutting research themes: technology and northern, rural and remote environments.
The successful candidate will establish a self-funded program of relevant research. The candidate is also expected to advise and participate in student committees within the MSc and Applied Health Sciences PhD programs. The primary teaching role will be as a course coordinator with overall responsibility for instruction and evaluation within the MOT program.
The successful candidate will teach at the graduate level within the entry-to-practice occupational therapy program as well as the Master of Science (Rehabilitation) program. Experience in coordinating and organizing courses as well as providing a variety of teaching approaches based on a well-developed teaching philosophy is expected. Teaching will focus on the physical, cognitive, or affective nature of enabling occupation, including a particular focus on older adults or children, and advising students through the research process.
Completion or nearing completion of a doctoral degree from a program related to the field of occupational therapy or occupational sciences
Eligible for registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Manitoba (COTM)
Eligible for membership with the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT)
Minimum 5 years of experience coordinating and teaching occupational therapy related courses at a University level
Experience teaching the person-based aspects of occupational therapy including functional anatomy and physiology and evidence-based occupational therapy is an asset
Evidence of an emerging program of research demonstrated by publications and success with grant funding
Demonstrated leadership abilities with strong communication and culturally-sensitive interpersonal skills
Completion of Indigenous Cultural Safety course is considered an asset
