About the Position

The Director of Programs leads and works within a team of highly qualified specialists to deliver the highest level of services possible to families with children and youth who have developmental needs.

This position reports directly to the Executive Director and is part of a senior leadership team that works collaboratively to achieve the organizational goals of the agency. This includes frequent connection to the Board of Directors, donors and the community.

The NCDC is an organization that is very much a part of the growing community of Nanaimo. The Director of Programs needs to be a strong community builder who has a history of community outreach.

The Director is tasked with the challenges of ensuring excellent program team function, the delivery of high quality services based on established best practices, the evolution of services based on emerging research and promising practices and the development of value-add initiatives made possible by our fundraising efforts. The Director should welcome the potential for growth of services for the families we serve.

  • An appreciation for, or working experience, in a non-profit setting is essential
  • Related combination of post-secondary education and experience in the field
  • Minimum of three years recent supervisory or managerial experience in a family-based, multidisciplinary setting
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Valid driver’s license and available vehicle/transportation with adequate insurance.

About the Nanaimo CDC

The Nanaimo CDC holds a special place in the hearts of those living in beautiful Nanaimo and surrounding area. For 50 years the NCDC has done exceptional work with thousands of children and youth with development needs. The NCDC enjoys an excellent reputation, is a highly rated CARF-accredited agency, and is often nominated for local awards from organizations such as the Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce.

We are a non-unionized team of 52 FTEs (80 staff members) that offers a wide range of child development services in a “one-stop-shop” type environment.  Funded by the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD), the local school district (SD #68) and the Ministry of Health (Island Health) we also are fortunate to have additional funding from fundraising.

The Board of Directors sets a priority for a supportive, healthy environment and provides the senior team with the resources it needs to ensure this happens. Our yearly staff surveys tell us we are achieving in this area.


The fun factor

Our “world-famous” Silly Boat Regatta is a yearly highlight to the summer, attracting close to 10,000 throughout the fun-filled day. We host a number of other events throughout the year including our Celebrity event each Spring.
