Laura Bulk, OTCAOT-BC Advisory Committee Chair
Laura works as a case-manager and active rehabilitation therapist with individuals who experience mental illness, neurological conditions, low-vision, and a range of injuries. Laura has worked for over 13 years with the Canadian National Institute for the Blind and has served as a B.C. committee member and educator with the Active Living Alliance for Canadians with a Disability in the advancement and promotion of the rights of persons with disabilities. Laura is pursuing a PhD at the University of British Columbia (UBC), focusing on the examination and exposure of exclusionary practices and policies, and the use of innovative strategies that will reach the public, policymakers, and scholars. She is part of the UBC Public Scholars Initiative, which aims to promote scholarship done for the public good. Her doctoral research concentrates on exploring experiences and challenging (mis)perceptions of blindness in a variety of contexts. Laura is also a clinical tutorial facilitator, an occupational therapy teaching assistant, MOT research supervisor and a research assistant in the Department of Occupational Science & Occupational Therapy (OSOT).
Giovanna Boniface, OT, CCLCPCAOT-BC Managing Director
Giovanna has been the Managing Director of CAOT-BC since January 2012. Prior to that, Giovanna has a long history of volunteering for the provincial occupational therapy professional association in BC (BC Society of Occupational Therapists), holding board director positions including regional director, secretary/treasurer, president-elect and co-president. She was also the chair of the BCSOT Private Practice SIG for 5 years. Giovanna graduated from the UBC occupational therapy program in 1997 and is currently working on obtaining a Master of Rehabilitation Science at UBC. Giovanna has also been a guest instructor at the West Coast College of Health Care therapist assistant program from 2004-2005 providing lectures in the area of brain injury, a small group tutorial leader and seminar facilitator for the UBC Faculty of Medicine, Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy, Occupational Therapy Master’s Program and is appointed as a Clinical Instructor to the same program. Giovanna also provides clinical teaching for the University of British Columbia, Faculty of Medicine and is a Canadian Certified Life Care Planner.
