Presenters: Megan Bailes, Kevin Grunden

As our population continues to live longer, the prevalence of dementia also continues to increase. Many of our clients desire to age-in-place, which presents a unique challenge to caregivers given the complex nature of dementia. Occupational therapists are in a position to help our clients with dementia and their caregivers remain successfully in the home. The presenters have created a program that combines in-depth caregiver training, home modifications, interdisciplinary medical and case management, with a focus on occupation-based interventions to facilitate safely aging in place for clients with dementia. Interventions, assessments, outcomes, and case studies will be reviewed.

After taking part in this webinar, participants will:

  • Understand the benefits of in-depth caregiver training and consider strategies to implement caregiver training in a variety of settings.
  • Identify home modifications to increase safety and participation in ADLs and desired activities for clients with dementia.
  • Recognize the importance and benefits of occupation-based interventions for clients with dementia.
