Presenters: Katelyn Kelly and Maria Borrelli

Occupational therapists are an integral part of the rehabilitation process, playing vital roles within each stage of the continuum of care. Occupational therapists have a responsibility to remain part of the process throughout all stages of neurorecovery to maximize positive outcomes. This webinar will define the unique role occupational therapists play throughout the rehabilitation process from the onset of pediatric brain injury to the ultimate goal of transition to home with a plan for follow up care. The continuum of care will be considered within four primary practice areas: acute care, inpatient rehabilitation, outpatient therapy, and follow-up care in a multidisciplinary clinic.

After taking part in this webinar, participants will:

  1. Understand the variability and complexity of the impairments associated with pediatric traumatic brain injury.
  2. Define the occupational therapist's role across the continuum of care in order to maximize the child’s potential and facilitate meaningful recovery.
  3. Identify functional and occupation-based treatment strategies to incorporate into an individualized plan of care based upon the child’s stage of recovery.
