Managing executive dysfunction to improve the participation of adults with stroke and acquired brain injury

Vancouver, BC

Tuesday, August 28, 2018 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Pacific Time)

This one-day highly interactive workshop will equip occupational therapists with skills to begin to profile executive function application in people with stroke and acquired brain injury during occupational performance. This will lead onto the practical selection of intervention strategies to address executive dysfunction working towards optimizing participation in occupation. Small group discussions, knowledge check quizzes, group learning activities, case scenarios and simulated situations will be utilized to assist you in integrating and applying the information. The selected interventions will be a combination of established interventions from published studies and from interventions formulated from the theoretical frameworks.

Participants will receive a certificate of attendance electronically following the workshop.

Workshop topics:

  • Review of cognition
  • Models of executive function
  • The task concept and how executive function is applied to its stages
  • The executive function task application model
  • Using clues from people’s verbal stories and actions to analyse executive function application to task

After taking part in this workshop, participants will:
