Wheelchair seating for pressure management

Register online by November 7, 2017 - 11/14/2017

Presenter: Jo-Anne Chisholm

People who use wheelchairs are at risk for pressure injuries, and so pressure management must always be considered in wheelchair seating and mobility. Occupational therapists prescribe wheelchairs and a core responsibility is to define the risk for pressure injury through assessment (including pressure mapping) and then to ensure that the wheelchair configuration and seating supports are responsive to this risk as well as meeting your client’s participation goals. Seating interventions to manage pressure for the seated client are described with case studies; including posture modifications; facilitating position change; surface selection (pressure redistribution, force isolation and dynamic); and microclimate management.

After taking part in this webinar, participants will:

  1. Describe the clinical process used to determine pressure risk and name two tools.
  2. Name and describe at least 3 seating interventions used to manage pressure.
  3. Name and describe 3 pressure mapping interpretation parameters.
