12-Oct-2017 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM - Public lecture: Restoring relationships to transform healthcare
McGill New Residence Hall, Ballroom A
3625 Avenue du Parc
Montreal, Quebec H2X 3P8
Canada

The Opening Public Lecture and welcome reception is free and open to the public. This is an opportunity to learn more about whole person care from an expert in the field and to mix with participants from 11 countries at the welcome reception that follows the lecture.

The Public Lecture will be given by Dr. Vikas Saini, President of the Lown Institute, located in Brookline, on the outskirts of Boston, USA.

He will discuss the way in which modern scientific medicine has become too focused on molecules and organ systems, and how that has led to a growing sense that medical encounters are transactions. If we are to fix healthcare around the world, we have to rebuild our systems to empower and promote the relationships at the heart of healing. That means creating systems where people have a feeling of being known, heard and respected — like being cared for by family. It means spending more time with patients but doing less to them…. Such an  approach would cost less while maintaining good outcomes.

Lecture will be followed by a reception. Free and open to the public. Space is limited. Please RSVP to angelica.todireanu@mcgill.ca to reserve your seat.
