An intervention guideline for relationship-based feeding: Guiding parents through coaching

Registration by 11:59 a.m. (Eastern Time) on September 17, 2024

Presented by: Patricia Henton, OTD, OTR/L, ICA, CEIM and Tsu-Hsin Howe, PhD, OTR, FAOTA

A relationship-based feeding guideline addresses the need for occupational therapists to reduce parent stress and provide support through caregiver training during feeding intervention (Carpenter & Garfinkle, 2021). It applies a holistic and family-centred approach that supports family relationships and mealtime participation to achieve caregiver desired outcomes (Simione et al., 2020).

This webinar will present evidence that informs the development of a relationship-based feeding intervention guideline for working with young children and their caregivers. Occupational therapy professionals will learn how to implement the relationship-based feeding intervention via parent coaching through video recordings and a case example.

After taking part in this webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe current evidence that informs the development of a relationship-based feeding intervention guideline.
  2. Identify at least three coaching strategies to support healthy eating and mealtime feeding intervention.
  3. Reflect on ways to integrate a relationship-based feeding approach to promote family-centred outcomes.
