Canadian occupational therapists have a key role to play to support the independence at home of adolescents and adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Learning about factors influencing their independence at home will enhance occupational therapist’s reflections regarding key elements to document during evaluations and potential interventions to create residential environments supporting their full potential.
This webinar will investigate how residential environments that support the independence at home of adolescents and adults with autism spectrum disorder can be created. More specifically, the main factors that influence the independence at home of adolescents and adults with ASD will be reviewed. These factors have been identified in a study in which 10 persons with ASD and 13 parents have been interviewed. Concrete interventions based on the thoughts shared by the participants will be discussed.
