Description

ON-DEMAND WEBINAR PURCHASE

Presented by: Dr. Helen Carey

"Positive tiredness" is a concept that challenges fatigue management: linking fatigue with deconditioning and describing a positive impact of tiredness with rehabilitation (Carey, 2022). The concept of positive tiredness has the potential to impact the clinical reasoning of occupational therapists working with a wide range of conditions, ages, and settings.

This webinar will discuss a study that demonstrates that excessive focus upon fatigue management in people with mild to moderate symptomatology from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) /motor neurone disease (MND) can potentially decondition and hence limit participation in occupations. The concept of positive tiredness will be explored and compared and contrasted to fatigue management, as well as the concept of positive tiredness across a wide range of ages, conditions and settings. This webinar will also explore intervention strategies that embrace positive tiredness.

After taking part in this webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify how enabling positive tiredness for people with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) /motor neurone disease (MND) can positively impact participation in occupations.
  2. Define the potential of fatigue management to decondition people with ALS/MND.
  3. Recognize how the concept of positive tiredness applies to a wide range of conditions, ages, and settings.
  4. Recognize the delivery of embracing positive tiredness to therapy.
