The Recovery Education Program is designed for inpatient psychiatry settings, including acute units and rehabilitation units. The target population is mental health providers working in the inpatient context. It is relevant for any inpatient providers including (but not limited to) managers, nurses, occupational therapists, peer support workers, personal support workers, psychiatrists, psychologists, recreational therapists, and social workers. The objectives include:
providing inpatient organizations with guidelines for promoting recovery
providing managers/educators with support and materials to implement recovery education
enabling the development of skills for delivery of recovery-oriented services in the inpatient setting
helping providers transfer recovery knowledge into daily practice
providing resources and support for providers to deliver recovery-oriented services
This education program consists of four chapters. Chapter One and Two engage recovery educators, managers, and/or hospital supervisors in considering important factors before delivering the Recovery Education Program. Chapter Three, the Self-Learning Program, and Chapter Four, the Group Learning Program, are the body of the Recovery Education Program, designed to be used by inpatient providers. The program is designed to build on the strengths, experiences and collaborations in the in-patient setting to advance recovery-oriented service delivery.
