Breathing is a powerful technique that can help balance the autonomic response, increase focus and attention, and decrease anxiety. Learning how to breathe and how to teach breathing benefit can occupational therapists and their clients, regardless of the area of practice. If a client is calmer, then they are better able to engage in intervention.
This webinar will complete an overview of what breathing is and how it interplays with the autonomic nervous system. The presenter will review the benefits and challenges associated with teaching breathing strategies and will discuss how learning to teach breathing can positively impact clinical outcomes. Three types/styles of breathing strategies will be reviewed. Specific teaching strategies to promote follow through will be discussed.
