Associate Dean, Rehabilitation Science

Originally founded as the School of Medical Sciences in 1926, the College of Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan has come a long way from its humble beginnings.  Eighty eight years later, the College of Medicine provides a full range of academic programming including undergraduate and post-graduate medical training, physical therapy and undergraduate and graduate programming in the biomedical sciences.

The Associate Dean Rehabilitation Science is responsible for overall strategic leadership in the planning, implementation and evaluation of Rehabilitation Sciences. The Associate Dean is responsible for oversight of programs to ensure accreditation standards are met and quality programming is delivered.

 

The Associate Dean is a member of the senior leadership team, reporting to the Dean of the College of Medicine. As academic and operational leader, the Associate Dean is accountable for the creation and implementation of the integrated plan, in consultation with the Dean, and for ensuring the academic excellence and integrity in the Rehabilitation Sciences.

 

Major responsibilities include: ensuring accreditation of academic programs by external organizations is maintained; participating in the College planning process; managing financial resources in a prudent and responsible manner in alignment with the College’s and University’s plans; ensuring that strategic and operational plans are in place to support Rehabilitation Sciences; monitoring and improving performance to ensure outcomes; advocating and promoting best practices in education, research, teaching, outreach and engagement; and promoting the School’s involvement in national and international initiatives and organizations. The successful candidate will provide vision and leadership by encouraging and promoting research in the School. The Associate Dean is expected to represent the Dean on committees, in the community and with stakeholder partners as well as acting as the Deans’ delegate, as necessary.

Applicants should hold a PhD (or equivalent), a professional degree in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy or Speech Language Pathology, and have demonstrated success in research and teaching as well as a solid record of relevant professional practice. Progressive senior leadership experience in an academic environment is required.  Strong interpersonal skills are necessary.  Experience in working with diverse stakeholders and communities is required.  Demonstrated success in leading people to achieve exemplary performance and outcomes is desirable.
