Clinical Occupational Therapist I
          Permanent Full Time
        Location: St. Anthony, NL

 

Reporting to the OT II, the primary purpose of this position is to assist in the provision of occupational therapy services to the clients within the area/communities served by the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital, Labrador Grenfell Health.  Programs/services are to be delivered to clients in acute care, ambulatory care, community and long term care settings.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an approved School of Occupational Therapy;
  • Current membership/registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador Occupational Therapy Board and the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists;
  • Certification in CPR;
  • Willingness to travel within the region;
  • Access to automobile for work purposes/ Valid driver’s license;
  • The successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory certificate of conduct.


Duties and Responsibilities: (Include but not limited to):

  • Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates treatment programs for a variety of clients including orthopedic (surgical/traumatic), surgical, medical, neurological and pediatric, on an outpatient and inpatient basis. Such services are also provided to Residents in Long Term Care facilities and clients in the community;
  • Participates in the discharge planning of clients and liaises with community resources (e.g. home care) as required;
  • Maintains timely and accurate records in accordance with OT Standards of Practice;
  • Documents, monitors and evaluates programs for implementation by non-health professionals outside the hospital situation (e.g. home support programs and school programs). Assists in developing programs for use within the hospital;
  • Provides guidance to other health care personnel working within the same service;
  • Maintains monthly workload statistics, in accordance with the requirements set by MIS standards;
  • Conducts home visits, school visits and visits to the long term care facilities as appropriate;
  • Conducts visits to the Labrador Grenfell Health centers and community clinics as appropriate;
  • Assists in setting goals and objectives for the occupational therapy service consistent with the organization’s mission;
  • Utilizes the principles and practices of Continuous Quality Improvement in service and program delivery;
  • Assists with the development and implementation of risk management and cost containment strategies;
  • Works within the guidelines within the organization and service policies and procedures;
  • Ensures compliance with occupational therapy practice standards and accreditation guidelines;
  • Ensures that equipment used in the occupational therapy service is in safe working order;
  • Prepares and completes reports for other professionals involved in the care of a client;
  • Acts as Clinical Supervisor for Occupational Therapy students;
  • Serves as consultant in matters concerning occupational therapy to facilities operated by Labrador Grenfell Health;
  • Provides clinical support/direction to the Occupational Therapy Assistant and Support Workers;
  • Assists with the preparation and billings for occupational therapy supplies;
  • Assists with ensuring appropriate and sufficient equipment and supplies are available to support the service/program delivery;
  • Collaborates with other members of the health care team in case management;
  • Facilitates communication and public relations between disciplines within the service, the organization and the community;
  • Commits to self-directed continuous learning/education;
  • Acts as resource person and/or provides the necessary in-service to appropriate staff regarding specific program implementation and evaluation;
  • Represents the occupational therapy service through participation on various committees/teams;
  • Participates in clinical research as required/requested, using appropriate protocol;
  • Assists in maintaining an up-to-date policy and procedure manual for the department;
  • Facilitates the safety of all occupational therapy clients and staff within the occupational therapy treatment area/department;
  • Ensures compliance with all safety precautions/regulations;
  • Attends/completes training required for safety purposes including WHMIS, CPR, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and respiratory fit testing;
  • Ensures compliance with all policies around safety issues/concerns - i.e. incident reporting;
  • Ensures regular communication regarding safety issues and safe work place/practices;




Salary:

  • CG-41 of the NAPE-HP salary scales $36.32 to $42.83 per hour.

 Hours of Work:

  • Hours of work will follow the flexible work schedule in accordance with Article 19.01(a)of the NAPE-HP Collective Agreement, based on 75 hours bi-weekly (by mutual agreement).
