The Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists is currently recruiting for the position of CAOT - North Regional Director. The position is a contract position working up to 1 day per week. Residency in one of Canada’s northern territories is a requirement for consideration of this position.


The CAOT - North Regional Director will represent the occupational therapy membership of CAOT-North by working with the Advisory Committee and local occupational therapy leaders to advance the northern practice needs. This position will require connection to and involvement in the national Practice Networks, the British Columbia and Quebec Chapter programs, and the Volunteer Program. When possible, this position could support the development of local communities of practice.

Required Qualifications:

  •     Entry-level degree in occupational therapy
  •     Currently registered in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of British Columbia or another provincial college
  •     Demonstrated interest in professional practice and project-based work
  •     Demonstrated understanding of professional issues facing occupational therapists in the northern Canadian Territories
  •     Demonstrated skills in organization and time management
  •     Excellent written and verbal communication
  •     Excellent collaboration skills
  •     Ability to work from home
  •     Willingness to travel when needed (e.g. CAOT Conference, Planning Retreat with National Office)

Recommended Qualifications:

  •     Experience with volunteer-intensive service operations and/or non-profit organizations.
  •     Experience with MS Office Standard (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  •     Excellent working knowledge of personal computer software.


The CAOT-North Chapter Regional Director is responsible for:

  •     Serving as the primary contact in the territories regarding issues related to occupational therapy for the membership, relevant consumer groups, governments and other organizations interested in health care/ social services
  •     Providing input to policy and decision-making affecting occupational therapy
  •     Planning, coordinating, implementing and evaluating organizational activities to meet CAOT’s strategic objectives regionally
  •     Working closely with all CAOT teams
  •    Keeping abreast of territorial developments in occupational therapy, health care and wellness arenas

Description of Duties:

The CAOT-North Regional Director progresses specific operational objectives that support the strategic priorities of CAOT. Operational objectives are typically related to advancing professional practice and local advocacy efforts and may include, but are not limited, to:

  •    Tracking and promoting the use of the Northern Legacy Fund
  •     Development of a communications platform for CAOT-North members (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Blog, Newsletter)
  •     Chapter infrastructure development (e.g. supporting the needs of the Advisory Committee)
  •     Contributing to resource development regionally and nationally
  •     Networking with local occupational therapists, healthcare providers, regional stakeholders, and government officials to move forward operational objectives for    CAOT-North members.
