The Occupational Therapist position is an important role in FNESC’s Special Education department. This position reports to the Team Lead, Occupational Therapists/Physiotherapists.

 

The Occupational Therapist (OT) is part of the FNESC Special Education team and will provide the necessary assessments, student programming, and community and staff training as required.  The Occupational Therapist will collaborate with the FNESC Special Education team to develop a realistic approach to addressing the needs of students.

Since 1992, FNESC, led by a strong and diverse board of over 125 First Nations community representatives, has worked in partnership with the First Nations School Association (FNSA), and the Indigenous Adult Higher Learning Association (IAHLA). Communications, research, partnership-building, resource development and advocacy are all part of the work we do to advance issues in First Nations education.

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Collaborating with school staff, parents, and community members where applicable, to develop a realistic approach to addressing the needs of students within the resources available;
  • Providing Occupational Therapy assessments for screened students at assigned First Nations Schools;
  • Providing summary of strategies/techniques to develop students’ skills;
  • Collaborating with the multidisciplinary team assigned to the school;
  • Providing data, statistical reports as required to meet program accountability requirements and identify and implement strategies to increase program success;
  • Providing follow-up support via telephone/email/videoconference as applicable and as deemed necessary by the school and as approved by FNESC;

 

What We’re Looking For:

 

  • Current registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of British Columbia (COTBC) and a Master's Degree from an accredited school of Occupational Therapist;
  • Demonstrate experience and clinical competence including successful observation, assessment, and therapy skills;
  • Ideally experience working with First Nations in the field of pediatric Occupational Therapy;
  • Comprehensive understanding of First Nations education issues and First Nations issues in British Columbia;
  • Knowledge of current standards, trends, issues, best practices, philosophy, and techniques in occupational therapy;
  • Flexibility to travel to First Nations Schools in British Columbia;
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 driver’s license.

 

Hours

 

This is a salaried full-time position. Frequent travel is required throughout the province of BC.

Location:

Anywhere in British Columbia that might be suitable for FNESC’s needs.
