Occupational Therapist – Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACTT)

CLASSIFICATION:

Occupational Therapist (OT) – North Simcoe Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Team – Full-Time, Permanent – Orillia, ON

The Canadian Mental Health Association, Simcoe County Branch seeks an Occupational Therapist (OT) who will perform their duties and responsibilities in accordance with the agency’s policies, standards, and guidelines. As an OT, you will have the clinical skills and experiences to be able to assess, plan, develop, coordinate, and provide treatment/rehabilitation/support services to clients with severe and persistent mental illnesses.

DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES & RELATED TASKS: 

  • Provides the majority of the treatment, rehabilitation and support services, in addition to clinical & psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery for persons who have the most serious mental illness, have severe symptoms and functional impairments, and have not benefited from traditional outpatient programs.
  • Enhance team expertise in assessment (e.g., functional assessments, evaluation of daily time use, environmental assessments, cognitive or physical assessments) and intervention (e.g., remedying impairments, developing adaptation strategies, facilitating skills development, strengthening client resources, aligning with client strengths, values, and activities).
  • Document assessment and interventions as they relate to the client’s mental illness symptoms, behaviors and response to medication and will monitor for medication side effects. Reports comprehensive assessments to team psychiatrist.
  • Provide symptom management techniques to alleviate/manage symptoms.
  • Develop, implement, and document Ontario Common Assessment of Need (OCAN)/Recovery Plans in conjunction with the client and other ACT team members.
  • Coordinate and monitor the activities of the client’s individualized Recovery plans, including but not limited to: psychiatric illness or symptom reduction, housing activities of daily living, daily structured employment and family and social relationships.
  • Be adaptive, as the ACT team is mobile and delivers majority of treatment, rehabilitation, and assertive outreach in the community (75% or more of the services are provided outside of the program offices, in community).
  • Provide education regarding healthy lifestyles.
  • Assist clients with their activities of daily living (ADL) such as budgeting, shopping, meal planning/preparation, housekeeping, use of transportation, personal grooming, laundry, keeping appointments, etc.
  • Aid clients/participants in securing housing and support services. Including, conducting SPDAT’s (Service Prioritization and Decision Assistance Tool). Provide support, monitoring and advocacy for clients to obtain and maintain housing.
  • Responsible for transporting clients in the community and, on occasion, outside of the geographical area.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

OT:

  • Minimum two (2) years experience as an Occupational Therapist, with training in mental health
  • Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Registered (licensed) in good standing with the Canadian Occupational Therapists of Ontario.
  • Must have access to a vehicle, a valid Ontario driver’s license, and adequate insurance.
  • Fluency in French or another second language would be an asset.
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada.

SALARY SCALE: 

OT:  $71,544 - $78,042 per annum*

 

*prorated based on hours worked

*plus shift premium as per policy

HOURS OF WORK:

  • Thirty-five (35) hours per week.
  • Rotational shift work based on a seven (7) day staffing schedule.
  • Program provides service 365 days per year.
  • Able to work within a flexible framework to respond to client needs.
