The Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists has established its prestigious Fellowship Award in order to recognize and honour outstanding contributions and service made by an occupational therapist over an extended period of time. Nominations for this award will be considered annually but the award will be made only when recognition is merited in accordance with stated criteria.
Criteria for selection
Nominations must meet the following criteria:
- Nominees shall be individual or life members of the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists for ten (10) years prior to nomination.
- Nominees shall have been continuously engaged in the profession of occupational therapy for a minimum of ten (10) years.
- Nominees shall be recognized to have made consistent and outstanding contributions to the profession of occupational therapy in two or more of the following areas:
- clinical activities
- education
- publications
- research
- administration
- Nominees shall have contributed to professional association activities, particularly to the activities of the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists.
- Nominees must not be a current Board member or employee of the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists.
- Nominees need not be a resident in Canada if the achievements for which they are nominated have relevance to Canadian occupational therapy and they meet the other criteria for the award.
Nomination procedures
- Individual Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists members or a group of members are eligible to submit nominations. Self-nominations will not be considered.
- Nomination forms must be submitted through the link below.
- An electronic version of the signature form must be downloaded below and submitted with the nomination.
- The narrative must include explicit examples of the nominee’s contribution to the profession of occupational therapy, as contributing evidence of, and reasons for, the nomination of the candidate.
- The narrative is not to exceed three (3) typewritten pages, single spaced, one inch margins, 12 point, Arial font. Additional information will not be considered.
- Nominations are to be received by December 1st. All those received after December 1st will be considered for the following nomination year.

- Educational background
- Summarized work experience
- Consistent and outstanding contributions to the profession of occupational therapy in two or more of the following areas:
- clinical activities
- education
- publications
- research
- administration
- Contributions to professional activities, particularly to the activities of the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists. Outline position(s) held, duration and contributions that merit recognition.
- Honours bestowed on the candidate for professional achievement (awards, peer recognition, honorary degrees).
- An additional statement not to exceed seven (7) words shall be prepared that highlights the nominee’s primary contributions. This statement shall be used when announcing and publishing the name of the successful candidate(s).
