Canadian Journal of Occupational Therapy The  Canadian Journal of Occupational Therapy (CJOT)  is an official peer-reviewed journal of the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT). The principal content of the journal provides empirical evidence and theoretical/conceptual arguments that support and advance occupation-based, client-centred enablement of relevance to the Canadian context and occupational therapy globally.

The journal is published four times a year in March, June, September and December by SAGE publications, on behalf of CAOT. CJOT is an English/French bilingual journal. Articles are published in the language of submission with the title, key words, and abstract translated into the other language.

The CJOT was published for the first time in September 1933 and has fostered advancement and growth in occupational therapy scholarship throughout its history.

  • The  mission  of the journal is to provide a forum for leading-edge occupational therapy scholarship that advances theory, practice, education, research, and policy.
  • The  vision  is to be a high-quality scholarly journal that is at the forefront of the science of occupational therapy and a destination journal for the top scholars in the field, globally.

Golden Quill

The Golden Quill is awarded yearly to acknowledge an individual author or a group of authors who has/have published an exceptional article in CJOT in the two previous volume year.

CJOT Open Access Articles (no fees)

Through a transformative agreement, CJOT authors from a Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN) institution may now publish their articles as open access with no Article Processing Charge (APC). A Creative Commons license CC BY will be applied to open access publications unless a different license is requested by the author.

The recent CRKN agreement grants corresponding authors at participating Canadian institutions the right to publish Open Access across SAGE’s subscription titles at no direct cost to them. This includes CJOT. The CRKN subscription package now covers both read access and publishing rights, often termed a Read and Publish Agreement or Transformative Agreement. All SAGE agreements are tailored to meet the particular needs and circumstances of its institutional customers while seeking to maintain current revenue levels.

The CRKN agreement terms will apply to articles that have been accepted for publication on or after January 1, 2021 where the corresponding author is affiliated with a participating CRKN member institution. A visual guide to the author workflow process is available here.
