14-Nov-2018 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM - CAOT-BC: Occupation in Practice Network Meeting

CAOT-BC Occupation in Practice Network Meeting - (free for members, $20 + tax for others)

Date: November 14, 2018

Time: 12:00pm-1:00pm Pacific Time

Location: GoToMeeting

Occupation is at the core of our profession, but is it at the core of our practice? How do you apply your occupational perspective in practice, communicate it and make it visible to your clients, team, and the broader community? Join the Occupation in Practice Network to discuss understandings of occupation, the benefits and challenges of occupation-centred practice, and share strategies around how to bring occupation more into focus in your work. In a nut-shell: occupation is cool, so come and talk about it!

Focus of Meeting: Practical strategies to bring occupation into practice - sharing what we are doing and what’s possible. One useful outcome would be to develop a practical tips sheet we can distribute through CAOT-BC.

To-Do: Please reflect on your own practice and be ready to share. You may find it useful to listen to Brock Cook’s podcast “Operation Occupation” (http://www.brockcook.com/001/) - he shares how he intentionally and strategically transformed his practice into an occupation focused one. You may also want to review this article, as it lists some ideas to bring occupation into practice - what you already to, would like to do, agree with or disagree with? Gillen, A., & Greber, C. (2014). Occupation-focused practice: challenges and choices. British Journal of Occupational Therapy, 77(1), 39-41. Perhaps these resources will inspire new ideas you can share!
