Workshop Description:

Seating for the elderly is just as (if not more) critical to prevent injury and enhance function. This workshop will review the need to prescribe seating and mobility systems that provide the elderly with comfort and the ability to maintain autonomy, safety and independence despite their age.

Join Sheila on October 23, 2019 as she facilitates your:

  • Review of postural tendencies in the elderly.
  • Address physics of hand propulsion in the elderly.
  • Address physics of foot propulsion in the elderly.
  • Review restraint policies.
  • Three point positioning and forces related to seated posture.
  • Restraint free positioning.
  • Understanding the use of secondary supports and tilt.
  • Understand how the postural tendencies affect breathing, swallowing etc.
  • Acknowledge how to enhance comfort sitting.


About our Presenter:

Sheila Buck is an occupational therapist who has been working in the field of seating and mobility for over 20 years. She has presented papers and workshops at national and international conferences on topics of basic and advanced positioning with emphasis on pressure management, cognitive functioning and maintaining independent living skills and restraint reduction.

Sheila is the owner of Therapy NOW! Inc., in Southern Ontario, CANADA. Therapy NOW! is an occupational therapy company providing private consultation and education on seating and mobility assessments and prescription..

Most recently, Sheila has authored a clinical guide for seating and mobility titled: 'More Than 4 Wheels: Applying clinical practice to seating, mobility and assistive technology'
