Day camp intervention model for children with developmental coordination disorder

Children with developmental coordination disorder (DCD) often feel isolated and struggle functionally, academically and socially. School and day camps are frequently disheartening environments. Children with DCD not only need to understand their condition and be empowered to handle their motor challenges, they need an environment that allows them to interact and play. This webinar will provide an overview of why and how to design a day camp for children with DCD, which activities are appropriate to include to ensure a fun experience for the children as well as which outcome measures are helpful to assess the effectiveness. The day camp illustrated in this webinar is structured based on the Cognitive Orientation to daily Occupational Performance (CO-OP; Polatajko & Mandich, 2004) approach.

1. Understand the rationale for designing a day camp for children with DCD.
2. Be able to state activities that would be more suited to children with DCD in a day camp.
3. Be able to identify measures that can be used to assess the effectiveness of group intervention.
