Presenter: Brydne Edwards and Andrea Cook
Cumulative stress/strain on the structures of the spine due to repeated, unsafe transferring of clients can cause musculoskeletal injuries to caregivers. Since occupational therapists play a key role in client and family safety in the community, occupational therapists should be aware of safe transfer techniques to ensure safety for formal and informal caregivers.
This webinar will review guiding principles for patient transfers, drawing on research evidence and clinical experience, focusing on the application of each guiding principle. Subsequently, the webinar will cover how to conduct a holistic assessment of client’s capacity and their living circumstances to determine safe transfer techniques for caregivers in the community.
After taking part in this webinar, participants will:
Understand guiding principles for performing safe transfers.
Understand how to conduct a risk assessment to inform transfer decision.
Identify safe transfer techniques according to client and environmental factors.
