By contributing to national coalitions and task forces, CAOT represents the interest of occupational therapists and their clients to the larger community.  Formal and informal alliances help to strengthen a collective, national voice and to influence health care at all levels of government.


Active Aging Canada

Active Aging Canada, formerly Active Living Coalition for Older Adults, strives to promote a society where all adult and older adult Canadians are leading active lifestyles that contribute to their overall well-being.

In partnership with its members, Active Aging Canada encourages Canadian adults and older adults to maintain and enhance their well-being and independence through a lifestyle that embraces physical activity and an active living philosophy with the end goal of healthy active aging.


Canadian Action Network for the Advancement, Dissemination and Adoption of Practice-informed Tobacco Treatment

The Canadian Action Network for the Advancement, Dissemination and Adoption of Practice-informed Tobacco Treatment ( CAN-ADAPTT), is a Practice-Based Research Network committed to facilitating research and knowledge exchange among those who are in positions to help smokers make changes to their behavior (e.g., practitioners, healthcare/service providers) and researchers in the area of smoking cessation. The network supports health care providers through tools needed to deliver up to date evidence-based smoking cessation interventions to reduce the prevalence of tobacco use and dependence. 


Canadian Coalition for Public Health for the 21st Century

The Canadian Coalition for Public Health in the 21st Century ( CCPH21) a national network of 24 non-profit organizations, professional associations, health charities and research organizations that share a common goal -- to improve and sustain the health of Canadians.

CCPH21 advocates for public policy to ensure that adequate public health functions are in place and information is made available to protect and promote health, prevent disease and injury.CCPH21 aims to help all stakeholders work together for the future of public health by generating ideas and potential policy directions for discussion among both the public and decision-makers.


Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association

The Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association ( CHPCA) is the national voice for Hospice Palliative Care in Canada. Advancing and advocating for quality end-of-life/hospice palliative care in Canada, its work includes public policy, public education and awareness. Established in 1991, its volunteer Board of Directors is composed of hospice palliative care workers and volunteers from Canadian provinces and territories as well as members-at-large.


Canadian Network of Agencies for Regulation

The Canadian Network of Agencies for Regulation’s ( CNAR) mandate is to support those involved with the self-regulation of professions and occupations. The Network strives to increase the understanding of the Canadian public, governments and others, of the value of self-regulation, facilitate collaboration at the national level amongst our members, federal government agencies and other national and international groups; monitor and respond to federal legislation and policy; serve as an information clearing house on common issues; and develop and share resources.


Obesity Canada

Obesity Canada is a registered not-for-profit corporation with over 12,600 professional members. Its mission is to act as a catalyst for addressing obesity in Canada and to foster knowledge translation, capacity building, and partnerships among stakeholders so that researchers, health professionals, policy makers and other stakeholders develop effective solutions to treat, and to prevent obesity.


Canadian Patient Safety Institute

The Canadian Patient Safety Institute ( CPSI) is an independent not-for-profit corporation with the mandate to build and advance a safer health system for residents of Canada. CPSI functions at arm's length from governments, stakeholders and regulatory associations to support the development of patient safety initiatives.  CPSI provides leadership on patient safety issues, supports healthcare professionals in their development and implementation of patient safety programs, and promotes innovative ways of improving patient safety.


Canadian Pain Coalition

The Canadian Pain Coalition is a partnership of pain consumer groups, health professionals who care for people in pain, and scientists studying better ways of treating pain.  Its goals include:

  • Increasing recognition by public and professionals that chronic pain is a disease,

  • Promoting Best Practice guidelines

  • Reducing new cases of chronic pain through better treatment of acute pain,

  • Increasing number of specialized facilities to treat chronic pain adequately,

  • Increasing research activities into novel treatments of intractable pain.


Chronic Disease Prevention Alliance of Canada 

The Chronic Disease Prevention Alliance of Canada ( CDPAC) is a coalition of provincial, territorial and national organizations, researchers, practitioners and policy makers. CDPAC’s mission is to take an integrated, population health approach to influence policies and practices that will help prevent chronic disease.


Coalition for Safe and Effective Pain Management

The Coalition for Safe and Effective Pain Management (CSEPM) has been formed to evaluate the most common reasons for opioid prescribing in primary care settings, and develop recommendations for preventive measures that would help optimize clinical alternatives for pain management to reduce reliance on opioids, particularly for current non-users of opioids. The Coalition’s work will complement the Joint Statement of Action and support implementation of the National Pain Centre 2017 Recommendations for Use of Opioids in Chronic Non-Cancer Pain, which strongly recommend optimization of alternatives to opioids.


Extended Healthcare Professionals Coalition

Extended Healthcare Professionals Coalition  (EHPC), formerly G8, aims to improve the health and welfare of all Canadians; promote excellence and innovation in health research, education, and practice; and promote the advancement, development, dissemination, and application of knowledge that advances social justice and well-being for Canadians. EHPC represents over 100,000 of Canada’s regulated healthcare professionals and is a coalition of the: Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists; Canadian Association of Optometrists; Canadian Association of Social Workers; Canadian Chiropractic Association; Canadian Dental Association; Canadian Dental Hygienists Association; Canadian Pharmacists Association; Canadian Physiotherapy Association; the Canadian Psychological Association; Dietitians of Canada and Speech Language and Audiology Canada.


Global Alliance for Musculoskeletal Health of the Bone and Joint Decade

The Bone and Joint Decade is a network of more than a thousand national and international patient, professional, scientific organisations with National Action Networks in over 60 countries. Together this network is driving the agenda of the Bone and Joint Decade to position musculoskeletal conditions as a public health issue.


Organizations for Health Action

 The Organizations for Health Action ( HEAL), formerly Health Action Lobby, is a coalition of 40 national health organizations that represents a cross-section of health providers, health regions, institutions, and facilities. CAOT is a member of HEAL. All of HEAL’s members are committed to sustaining and enhancing the health of Canadians, and in the continuous improvement of fair, equitable, efficient and effective health services and system(s). T hese organizations represent more than 650,000 health-care providers from across the country.


Quality of End-of-Life Care Coalition of Canada 

The Quality End-of-life Care Coalition of Canada ( QELCCC) is a group of over 36 national organizations concerned about quality end-of-life care for all Canadians and their right to die with dignity, free of pain, and surrounded by their loved ones. The coalition developed a National Framework: A Roadmap for an Integrated Palliative Approach to Care and released a new  “Blueprint for Action” – 2010-2020 .


Realize

Realize, formerly Canadian Working Group on HIV and Rehabilitation, is a national charitable organization that responds to the rehabilitation needs of people living with HIV/AIDS. Realize bridges the traditionally separate worlds of HIV, disability and rehabilitation. Through research, education and cross-sector partnerships they work to improve the lives of people with HIV.


World Federation of Occupational Therapists

The World Federation of Occupational Therapists ( WFOT) is the key international representative for occupational therapy and occupational therapists around the world and the official international organization for the promotion of occupational therapy. Founded in 1952, WFOT currently has 69 member associations.
