CAOT addresses key areas of their 2019-2022 Strategic Principles by providing its members with opportunities to grow their individual leadership skills through knowledge exchange and networking (CAOT, 2019). Tempest and Dancza (2019) assert “the core principles of social leadership and occupational therapy are synchronous” (p. 2) and in their editorial propose ideas based on these principles to advance leadership across the profession.
This presentation will provide insight into qualities and values that make good leaders and methods for leadership development in the beginning of a leadership journey. Participants will have the opportunity to explore their personal values and beliefs in order to set leadership goals. These topics are applicable to any occupational therapy practitioner, regardless of expertise, background, or years of experience. This presentation is aimed toward a new population of emerging leaders, and requires little to no educational knowledge of leadership.
After taking part in this webinar, participants will be able to:
Identify personal leadership values to apply to their leadership journey
Recognize how to make a leadership role accessible, realistic, and attainable
Develop a personal mission statement and goals for their leadership journey
